After months journeying through the Gospel of John, we arrive at the question sitting behind everything John has written: what does it really mean to believe in Jesus?
This week, Pastor Jeff brought our series together through John 20:30-31, where John tells us exactly why he recorded these stories: “These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His name.”
Looking back through John, we see what that belief produces. Through Jesus we become children of God, our stories can lead others towards Him, the Holy Spirit brings life that flows through us, we receive hope beyond death, and we begin to see God's glory at work in the world around us.
Pastor Jeff reminded us that following Jesus is a daily choice to keep entrusting our lives to Him, handing over our plans, our future and our everyday decisions, and choosing His way again and again. It may take us down unexpected roads, and sometimes difficult ones, but Jesus promises to walk them with us.
This is the invitation at the heart of John's Gospel: believe in Jesus, follow Him, and discover the real, active and abundant life that is found in His name.
